3-D Apocalyptic Soup Cans

Watercolor & Gouache on Can-Shaped Wood Containers. 4" x 6"

The ever-popular Apocalyptic Soup Cans, now in three dimensions! I had a wild idea to try my hand at turning them into soup-can sized trinket boxes, and after some planning and quite a few hours of work, here we are!

The bodies are wood, covered in hand-painted and hand-lettered paper labels. The inside and bottom are lined with felt to protect them and any surface they are placed on, ease stacking if desired, and cushion any trinkets stored inside. The painted wooden surfaces (the rim and underside of the lid, the lip of the inside of the can) are finished with a polished wax instead of varnish to ensure the lid wont stick. I used watercolors, acrylic, and gouache for these so I would caution against excessive handling of the body of the can to prevent staining from skin oils, but the rim of the can is waxed so you can safely open and close it as often as you’d like. There are silica gel sachets in them to address any trapped moisture, and I truly tried to think of everything.

As with all of the iterations of Apocalyptic Soup Cans, these tend to go out of stock quickly. Click the shop link below to check availability, but if you don’t find what you want in stock, get in touch to let me know and I can put something into production for you.
