Don't Wait

Watercolor & Gouache on Wood Panel, 24" x 24"

“The sky glows
I see it shining when my eyes close
I hear your warnings but we both know
I’m gonna look at it again”
– “DON’T WAIT,” DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL

In this piece, I wanted to capture the golden feeling of blossoming summer love – beautiful and radiant in its moment but destined to only last a season. The figure in the foreground playfully looks back over her shoulder, making sure her lover is in pursuit. The figures represent Helios, the Greek sun god, and Auxo, the goddess of summer, who is commonly associated with growing grain. As I often do, I have taken liberties with the canonical gender of the characters portrayed.
