Lament for Boromir

18" x 24” Watercolor, Colored Pencil & Gouache

“His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest,
And Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, bore him upon its breast.
‘O Boromir! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward gaze,
To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days.”
-“THE TWO TOWERS,” JRR TOLKIEN

There is no beginning without an end, and while there is sadness, there is also hope. I chose a bright and pastel palette for this piece, which suited my mood as I created this, on the cusp of one year into another. So much change, so much death – of self, of ego, of old dreams and patterns that no longer serve me. In spite of, rather, because of this space cleared within and without, there is room for the promise of a new day. A new dawn, bringing with it possibility and the challenge of breaking new ground. So, I am setting my old self off in a funeral boat, and soldiering on into the new day, the new year, with a renewed sense of purpose and meaning.
