“The leaves were long, the grass was green,
The hemlock-umbels tall and fair,
And in the glade a light was seen
Of stars in shadow shimmering.
Tinúviel was dancing there
To music of a pipe unseen,
And light of stars was in her hair,
And in her raiment glimmering.”
“THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING,” JRR TOLKIEN
The inspiration for this piece is The Song of Beren And Lúthien, as sung by Strider (Aragorn) in the chapter “A Knife In The Dark” from The Fellowship Of The Ring. This song is about an elf, Lúthien (Tinúviel) dancing in the forest, as Beren watches her, transfixed by her beauty. In this piece, you (the viewer) are Beren, unable to look away from her loveliness.
Because I am utterly ridiculous I also painted the other side in a coordinating pattern.
